- Passers-by rescued a woman and a child from a car that flew into a canal in Makhachkala
In Makhachkala, a car drove into the canal named after the October Revolution. This was announced on January 25 by the press service of the Dagestan Prosecutor's office.
"The Dagestan Prosecutor's Office has put under control the establishment of the circumstances of a car falling into a canal in Makhachkala," the department's Telegram channel says.
Taxi driver Nurislam Ramazanov, whose car fell into a water channel in Makhachkala, told Izvestia that he was taking a mother and child to the hospital when he had to avoid a parked car on the road, which created an obstacle. At a speed of about 40-50 km/h, his car skidded and became uncontrollable, while neither the gas nor the brake reacted.
According to Ramazanov, he did not panic and tried to calm the woman down. Almost immediately, witnesses of the incident came to the rescue, who climbed onto a pipe passing through the canal.
"The child went out the window first. The guys caught him. The child, one might say, did not get wet, because there was no water in the cabin. The baby was dry," he said.
After the child was removed and the car touched bottom, the eyewitnesses entered the water with a rope and helped the woman and the taxi driver out.
Earlier, on January 1, skiers at a ski resort in Sochi rescued a 10-year-old girl Violetta, who was overwhelmed by an avalanche. According to the girl's father, he was riding with his daughter when he saw an impending mass of snow. About 20 minutes later, one of the skiers found the child, probing the snow with sticks.
