Russia and the United States have not yet made progress in negotiations on the return of Russian diplomatic property and the resumption of direct flights. This was announced on January 25 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

"These are the irritants. According to diplomatic property, there are no changes regarding the resumption of direct flights," he said in an interview with TASS.

According to the diplomat, the lack of results makes it impractical to hold high-level meetings. Ryabkov added that organizing events that later prove fruitless is counterproductive.

In addition, as the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation noted, the dialogue was moved to a lower level so that relevant experts could carry out preparatory work.

Russian Ambassador to the United States Alexander Darchiev said last November that the US State Department refuses to discuss the resumption of direct flights with Russia and the return of diplomatic status. The ambassador stressed that Washington's similar position can be traced to the issue of restoring direct flights between the United States and Russia.

Ryabkov later said that there was still no progress on the resumption of flights between the countries, but this issue was not removed from the agenda. He also added that Moscow and Washington maintain constant contact, while security issues occupy a central place on the bilateral agenda.
