A suspect in the purchase of ammunition for Hamas was detained in Germany.
German law enforcement authorities have detained Lebanese citizen Mohammad Z., who is suspected of participating in the purchase of weapons for the Palestinian radical movement Hamas. This was announced on January 24 by the German Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the agency, the arrest took place on the evening of January 23 at Berlin-Brandenburg airport after the suspect's arrival on a flight from Beirut. The operation was carried out by employees of the Federal Criminal Police Department and the Federal Police on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by an investigating judge of the Federal Court.
According to the department, the man is suspected of membership in a foreign terrorist organization. The Prosecutor General's Office also stated that Mohammad Z. He is a member of Hamas.
"In August, in collusion with Abed Al-G., against whom a separate trial is underway, he purchased 300 rounds of ammunition. These actions served to prepare terrorist attacks by Hamas on Israeli or Jewish targets in Germany and Europe," the prosecutor's office said, quoting TASS.
It is expected that on January 24, the detainee will be taken to the investigating judge of the Federal Court, who will decide on the measure of restraint and possible detention.
