- In the West, they announced alleged threats to the United States against Rodriguez in case of refusal to cooperate.
The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, allegedly said that the United States had threatened her with reprisals for refusing to cooperate. This was reported on January 24 by The Guardian newspaper with reference to a video that, according to the publication, appeared online after a leak from one of the meetings of the Venezuelan government.
Earlier, on January 16, The New York Times (NYT) reported that the director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), John Ratcliffe, held a meeting with Rodriguez in Caracas. The source of the publication clarified that the visit was made on behalf of US President Donald Trump, who asked to convey to the Venezuelan side a signal of Washington's interest in improving working relations.
Prior to that, on January 15, Trump announced that he would one day pay a visit to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and also allowed the possibility of Rodriguez's arrival in the United States. The American leader noted that he had not yet met with Rodriguez, but he considers her "very pleasant."
