In the northern part of Helsinki, police found an 80-year-old man who, according to preliminary data, could have lived for several decades in a basement without windows, toilets, cooking and hygiene. This was reported by the Daily Mail on January 23.

The man was found on Monday, January 19, during a search of a villa located in a residential area of Helsinki. His home was a basement room with no windows and no access to sanitation. According to law enforcement officers, he was in poor physical condition and needed urgent help. The police officer claims that the man was not formally banned.

"We are now investigating whether he had the opportunity to leave the room or not," said Police Inspector Jari Korkalainen.

A married couple and their relative, aged about 60, were detained as part of the case. Allegedly, the villa belongs to one of the men. According to the publication, they were released, but they remain suspects in the ongoing investigation.

The discovered 80-year-old man, in turn, is not related to the Suspects. However, the police confirmed that all four of them are familiar. All the participants in the case are registered at this address, but, according to the investigation, they did not live there on a permanent basis.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine how many years the man spent in the basement and whether there were any criminal offenses, including unlawful imprisonment or ill-treatment.

On October 31 last year, People magazine reported the discovery of a missing 13-year-old girl from Louisiana. The child was found in the basement of a house in Pennsylvania, hiding in a cardboard box covered with a sheet. 26-year-old Ki-Sean Kramiti from Pittsburgh was arrested on this fact. The man was charged with human trafficking and sexual violence against a minor.
