Bessent called Europe's possible response to the US duties an unwise step.
Europe's possible response to US President Donald Trump's tariffs over Greenland would be an unwise move. This was announced on January 19 by United States Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.
"I think that would be a very unwise step," said Bessent. His words are quoted by the Reuters news agency.
This is how the minister answered the question of whether Washington is concerned about a possible European response to American duties.
On the same day, TV2 reported on the deployment of Danish troops to Greenland. Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen also said that the island would not allow itself to be pressured.
Prior to that, on January 14, Trump noted that US relations with Denmark were "good," but Greenland was necessary for Washington to ensure national security. Later, he imposed duties of 10% with the possibility of increasing to 25% in relation to a number of European countries due to the situation around Greenland.
