- The parliament suggested an imminent shortage of money for pensions and payments to the military
Ukraine may face a shortage of funds to pay pensions and salaries to military personnel amid delays in the Verkhovna Rada's adoption of bills necessary to launch a new financing program of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This was announced on January 19 by MP Daniil Getmantsev.
According to him, consideration of the issue of a new IMF assistance program was scheduled for January, but the deadline was postponed due to the fact that Parliament did not adopt the required legislative changes.
"The IMF's governing body, which would have to make a decision on this program (on the allocation of money — Ed.), would have to take place in January, but due to the fact that the Rada did not adopt the necessary laws that are needed for this program <...> the deadlines have been postponed. There will be no <...> (decision on a new program — Ed.), there will be no money," Getmantsev said in a comment to Novosti.LIVE.
The MP stressed that in case of further delays, Ukraine may face problems with the timely payment of pensions and military allowances.
On the eve of the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the idea that the European Union (EU) adheres to the payment of reparations by Russia to Ukraine goes beyond fairy tales. He said that the amount that the EU is ready to pay to Kiev over the next 10 years is €800 billion. These funds, Orban stressed, would be enough to provide pensions and family support in his country for 40 and 60 years ahead, respectively.
Prior to that, on January 13, Ukraine had overdue another debt payment to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). It was clarified that it was a question of refunding funds received under the IMF's loan mechanism, formed from contributions from the organization's member states.
