Trump sent Lukashenko an offer from Belarus to become a founder of the Peace Council
US President Donald Trump has sent an appeal to his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko with a proposal for Belarus to become a founder member of the Peace Council. This was announced on January 19 by the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"The Belarusian side has received a personal appeal from the President of the United States of America, Mr. Donald Trump, addressed to the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko," the department's Telegram channel says.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Belarusian leader positively assessed this proposal. It clarifies that the country is ready to participate in the activities of the "Peace Council", while hoping that the organization will be able to expand its powers beyond the proposed mandate.
In addition, such a decision will allow the organization to participate in global processes to resolve any international conflicts, which will also contribute to building a "new security architecture," the ministry added.
Earlier, on January 14, the Axios portal reported that the United States had sent invitations to a number of states to join the "Peace Council" on the Gaza Strip. According to the portal, the first meeting within the council may take place as early as next week. Trump is expected to chair the meeting. On January 15, the American leader announced that the formation of the "Peace Council" had been completed. He also added that, in his opinion, this is the greatest and most prestigious council that has ever been created.
Later, on January 17, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported that the composition of the Gaza Strip governance council had not been agreed with Israel and was contrary to state policy. The office added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to contact US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on this issue.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had also received an invitation from the United States to join the "Peace Council" on the settlement in the Gaza Strip. He also added that the Russian side is currently studying this proposal in detail and hopes to have contacts with the United States to clarify all the details.
