Tokayev accepted Trump's invitation to the "Peace Council" on Gaza
US President Donald Trump has invited his Kazakh counterpart Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to join the "Peace Council", which is supposed to maintain peace in the Gaza Strip. This was announced on January 19 by the press secretary of the President of Kazakhstan Ruslan Zheldibai.
"Yes, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was one of the first world leaders to receive an official invitation to join the Peace Council, and Kazakhstan to become one of the founding states. In response, the head of state sent a letter to the President of the United States expressing sincere gratitude and confirming his agreement to join this new association," he said in an interview with the Tengrinews portal.
Zheldibai explained that the Kazakh side had not previously made public statements on this issue, considering it unethical to pre-empt the official announcement of the Trump administration. The spokesman added that, probably, after receiving the consent from other participants, the full list of states included in the "Peace Council" will be made public.
"The President confirmed Kazakhstan's commitment to make every possible contribution to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East, strengthening interstate trust and global stability," Zheldibai stressed.
The Axios portal reported on January 14 that the United States had sent invitations to a number of states to join the "Peace Council" on the Gaza Strip. It was specified that the first meeting within the council could take place as early as next week. Trump is expected to chair the meeting. On January 15, the American leader announced that the formation of the "Peace Council" had been completed. He also added that, in his opinion, this is the greatest and most prestigious council that has ever been created.
On January 17, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid, citing the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reported that the composition of the Gaza Strip governance council was not coordinated with Israel and contradicts state policy. The office added that Netanyahu instructed Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to contact US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on this issue.
