Vandals destroyed a place for Epiphany bathing in Nevinnomyssk
Unknown persons destroyed a prepared place for Epiphany bathing at the confluence of the Kuban and Bolshoy Zelenchuk rivers in Nevinnomyssk. This was announced on January 18 by the head of the city Mikhail Minenkov.
"The logs and sawn-offs that we set up around the campfire so that people could sit down and warm up were broken and smashed. Moreover, these logs were simply thrown directly into the font," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
Minenkov assured that the specialists of the municipal institution for landscaping are already working on the site, all the damage will be promptly eliminated, the fonts cleaned, and recreation areas restored.
According to the head of Nevinnomyssk, vigilantes and Cossacks are on duty to ensure order. Minenkov promised that the incident would not interfere with the Epiphany bathing, and everything would be done to ensure that the event was held safely and according to all Orthodox canons.
Epiphany Eve came for Orthodox believers on January 18. It is celebrated on the eve of a major church holiday — Epiphany. Epiphany is one of the oldest holidays in Christianity. Historically, it dates back to apostolic times and originally formed a single celebration with the Nativity of Christ. This combined holiday reflected the early Christian understanding of the appearance of God into the world as a single event.
