Finnish politician Mema spoke about threats for criticizing anti-Russian sanctions
Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish national conservative Freedom Alliance party, said on January 18 that he regularly receives threats for criticizing anti-Russian sanctions and calls for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
"Unfortunately, I or any journalist who interviews me end up receiving threats and labels of some kind of traitors, which is very sad and irrational," he said in a conversation with TASS.
Mema said that he was even promised to repeat the fate of American activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot by a sniper last September during a speech at the University of the Utah Valley.
"In the end, you will become a Finnish Charlie Kirk if you continue to give interviews and speak out openly," the politician quotes the words of people who send him threats.
After the publication of a critical article in Yle, the number of threats in social networks against Meme increased, and a car incident occurred near his house, which the politician regarded as an attempt to intimidate him in the presence of his young daughter.
"All this shows the level of madness our society has reached. But I continue to advocate for peace and a diplomatic solution, even if it becomes very risky for me and my family," he said.
Mema stressed that he is not a pro-Russian politician, but stands for diplomacy and mutual respect. The politician believes that "propaganda paranoia" prevails in Finland now, and he sees no reason for an anti-Russian position.
Mema said on January 15 that Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen did not understand that the country's economy was suffering the most from the boomerang of sanctions against Russia. According to the politician, Finland would benefit more from attempts to restore dialogue with Moscow, while the government continues to work against the Finnish people.
