The family of a Russian woman who fell into a coma in Egypt due to a stroke and has been in hospital there for almost two weeks is looking for a way to return her to Russia, but private transport companies are asking for more than 13 million rubles for such a service. Ruslan Gardikhanov, the woman's son, told about this on January 18.

As the young man noted in a conversation with RIA Novosti, a primary school teacher from Tatarstan, 51-year-old Olga Gardikhanova, felt unwell on the evening of January 4 immediately after arriving in Sharm el-Sheikh. At the airport, she had a severe headache and shortness of breath, then her heart stopped.

After intensive care and tomography, doctors diagnosed a stroke with extensive hemorrhage. The woman is still in a coma in the intensive care unit of the international hospital. Later, on January 12, she underwent a nine-hour operation to remove part of the hematoma and install a drain.

"We really need help, first of all in transporting my mother home from Egypt. So far, we have not been able to resolve this issue. <...> We have learned about transportation from private companies, one of them has requested 13.5 million rubles for this service, which is unrealistic money for us," said Gardikhanov.

According to the woman's son, a hospital stay costs about $2-2.5 thousand per day, and medical insurance will end soon. The family has already returned to Tatarstan and is trying to find a way to evacuate. They appealed to local and republican authorities, as well as to diplomatic missions.

An Aeroflot flight from Bangkok to Krasnoyarsk was delayed at the departure airport on March 28, 2024 due to a technical malfunction. While waiting, the tourist from the destination fell into a coma. According to a passenger on that flight, due to lack of oxygen, people on board, including his wife, became ill after an hour.

Later it became known that the man died of cardiac arrest. The wife of the deceased Russian, Nadezhda Napalkova, said that doctors had been fighting for her husband's life for three days. At the same time, the Aeroflot press service reported that the airline had settled the issue of paying for the passenger's medical expenses.
