US President Donald Trump has sent a letter to his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan with an offer to become one of the founders of the "Peace Council" in Gaza. This was announced on January 17 by the Head of the press service of the Turkish President Burhanettin Duran.

"US President Donald Trump, as the founding chairman of the Peace Council, sent an invitation letter to our (Turkish. — Ed.) to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to become a founding member of the "Peace Council," he wrote on the social network X (former. Twitter).

Duran also noted that Turkey supported Trump's comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza, approved by a UN Security Council resolution. As part of this plan, a Peace Council and its organs are being created, which will be responsible for ensuring the security and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

The day before, it was reported that the "Peace Council" on the Gaza Strip included the special envoy of the head of the White House, Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, the son-in-law of the American leader, Jared Kushner, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, the head of the World Bank, Ajay Banga, and the deputy National Security Adviser of the United States, Robert Gabriel.

On January 15, Trump announced that the formation of a "Peace Council" to govern the Gaza Strip had been completed. He also added that, in his opinion, this is the greatest and most prestigious council that has ever been created.

The Axios portal reported on January 14 that the United States had sent invitations to a number of states to join the "Peace Council" on the Gaza Strip. It was specified that the first meeting within the council could take place as early as next week. Trump is expected to chair the meeting.

Bloomberg reported on January 11 that Trump intends in the coming days to announce the composition of the "Peace Council" on Gaza, which should deal with the implementation of Washington's post-war plan and the maintenance of a truce between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement. His tasks include the formation of an interim administration in Gaza, the involvement of international security forces and financing the reconstruction of the enclave.
