Yulia Afanasyeva, a participant in the Great Patriotic War and an honorary citizen of the city, died in Veliky Novgorod at the age of 100. This was reported on the website of the local administration on January 15.
Yulia Prokofievna Afanasyeva (nee Morozova) was born on March 14, 1926 in the village of Knyazhya Gora in the Batetsky district of the Novgorod region. During the war, as a teenager, she joined a partisan detachment and took part in the fighting of 1941-1945.
After the war, Afanasyeva began her career in the Batetsky district, later moved to Novgorod, where she worked at a defense complex enterprise. She worked at the capacitor factory for about 30 years, and was repeatedly awarded commendations and certificates of honor from regional authorities and the Ministry of Electronic Industry.
"For her long-term and conscientious work, Yulia Prokofievna was awarded the title of "Honored Veteran of the plant" and Veteran of Labor. She was awarded the Orders of "Labor Glory of the III degree", "Patriotic War of the II degree", etc. state awards," the website says.
By the decision of the Duma of Veliky Novgorod dated March 28, 2025, Yulia Afanasyeva was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of Veliky Novgorod".
