On January 15, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova expressed bewilderment at the words of German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl about the allegedly unique historical proximity of Berlin and Washington after his trip to the United States.

"Do Germans really speak the same language as Americans? But what about the Austrians and the Swiss? What about the people of Liechtenstein? Does Germany have a single currency with the Americans? Is Germany on the same continent with the United States and shares a common border?" she wrote on her Telegram channel.

According to Zakharova, even taking into account the significant number of immigrants from German lands in the United States, the influence of German culture in American history was limited and incomparable with British, Irish or Italian heritage.

At a joint press conference with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on January 13, the head of EU diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said that relations between the United States and the EU were "not so good" because there were moments of conflicting interests. At the same time, she noted that the union cannot abandon 80 years of cooperation with the United States due to the potential loss of benefits.
