- The Ministry of Transport announced the growth of the fleet of unmanned trucks in Russia by 2028
More than 300 unmanned trucks are planned to be brought to Russian roads by 2028. This was announced on January 15 by the Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin.
"More than 90 highly automated trucks are currently operating on the roads, and their number is planned to increase to 111 in 2026 and 313 by 2028," he told TASS.
According to the head of the Ministry of Transport, trucks are currently involved on the M-11 Neva and TSKAD highways, and in 2026 they are planned to be launched on the M-12 Vostok highway.
Nikitin also noted that at the current stage, autonomous transport is most effectively used on closed sections and routes with predictable traffic, whereas in large cities with heavy traffic, its implementation is still more difficult.
On December 15, it was reported that the Ministry of Transport, Rosavtodor and the Ministry of Internal Affairs would prepare a package of amendments to the rules of the road (SDA), including the priority of electronic signs, mandatory distance for trucks and new accident accounting rules. Thus, a draft resolution will be submitted that establishes the obligation for drivers to follow the instructions on electronic signs and their priority over conventional road signs.
