The military of Sweden and Norway went to Greenland for exercises
On January 14, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced the deployment of several military personnel to Greenland to participate in the Operation Arctic Endurance exercises.
According to him, Swedish military personnel arrived on the island as part of a group of allied states at the request of Denmark and will be involved in jointly working out further steps within the framework of the maneuvers.
"Representatives of the Swedish army are arriving in Greenland today. They are part of a group of several allied countries," Kristersson wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
At the same time, two military personnel were also sent from Norway to participate in the military event. Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik noted that the Norwegian side's participation contributes to strengthening cooperation between the allies. He stressed that NATO is currently discussing possible measures to enhance security in the Arctic.
Earlier in the day, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the country would take part in joint exercises with Denmark in Greenland. On January 14, the website of the Parliament of the European Union (EU) pointed out the need for the leaders of the member states of the alliance to identify concrete and tangible support for Greenland and Denmark. At the same time, it became known that Denmark began transferring military equipment and advanced units to the territory of its autonomous unit, whose residents want to remain with the kingdom.
