An extremely difficult power supply situation was reported in the Belgorod region.
An extremely difficult power supply situation has developed in the Belgorod region against the background of regular shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on January 12 by the governor of the region Vyacheslav Gladkov.
"The situation [with energy supply in the region] is extremely difficult. <...> The measures [to restore energy] that we are taking are enormous," he said at an operational meeting of the regional government, which was broadcast on the governor's page on the VKontakte social network.
To solve the problem, funds from the region, commercial enterprises, and the federal center were attracted, as well as assistance provided by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The Ministry of Emergency Situations and the State Reserve joined the work, and about 25 regions of the country provided support, Gladkov said.
During the meeting, the governor instructed to create mobile groups of power engineers to help start up the equipment and develop a simple and clear algorithm for servicing generators.
On January 9, a missile strike by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Belgorod was reported. Gladkov then noted that as a result of the attack, there was serious damage to the infrastructure facility, but there were no casualties. After the incident, the governor announced that he would hold a staff meeting and hear reports on the situation. It was also noted that all services continue to work to eliminate the consequences of the night rocket attack.
Gladkov later reported that 556,000 residents of the Belgorod region were left without electricity due to the shelling. He added that almost the same number of subscribers are without heat. About 200 thousand had water supply disruptions. In addition, according to the governor, work is underway in the Belgorod region to switch to backup energy sources.
