Congressman Lew urged the US military to disobey orders on Greenland
On January 11, Ted Lieu, a member of the US Congress from the Democratic Party, appealed to the US military not to obey a possible command order to attack Greenland in order to capture it.
Dear US Air Force, US Navy, US Army and US Marine Corps. Greenland is part of Denmark, a NATO ally. <...> You will not obey this <...> order (to attack Greenland. — Ed.)," he wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The relevant order, if it does not receive congressional approval, will, as Lew explained, be considered illegal.
On January 4, US President Donald Trump announced that it would be more beneficial for Europe from the point of view of defense if the United States owned Greenland. Later, on January 10, The Daily Mail (DM) learned that the United States Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) had received an order from Trump to prepare a detailed plan for an invasion of Greenland.
On the same day, Nils Jespersen, editor-in-chief of the Netavisen Pio newspaper and a public figure, suggested that it would be possible to prevent American influence on the island by relocating Danish Crown Prince Christian to Greenland. According to Jespersen, this will strengthen the connection with the island.
