Hungary's position on Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU) is firm — this country has no place in unification even after the end of the conflict. This was announced on January 8 by the head of the Office of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Gergey Guyash.

"Hungary's firm position is that peace should be established in Ukraine, but Ukraine has no place in the EU right now," TASS quoted him as saying.

Guyash added that representatives of the Hungarian government at a meeting held a day earlier, on January 7, discussed a peace settlement plan prepared by the Ukrainian side, which states that Ukraine will join the EU in 2027. Those who took part in the discussions considered this statement "impossible" and indicated that they were not alone in this matter.

The head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen announced a day earlier that she had held a meeting with President of the European Council Antonio Costa and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. During the negotiations that took place in Cyprus, the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU was discussed.
