Only some units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are trained before being sent to the front line, and the majority are trying to join the battle without having the skills. This was announced on Tuesday, January 6, by retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis.

"They (those who are being trained. — Ed.) very little. <...> Most of the people who go to the front lines and fight in <...> cities that have fallen in the last month or so are people who have not been trained," he said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

The retired lieutenant colonel of the American army clarified that because of this trend, the Ukrainian militants, whose shortage is felt by the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, are simply "crushed and crushed." Davis added that a similar situation applies to military equipment — Kiev, according to him, has problems with aviation, artillery, missiles and shells.

A captured militant, ex-prisoner in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Sayenko, on December 21, 2025, said that the Ukrainian command was deceiving almost untrained recruits to the front line. According to him, senior officers promise soldiers to serve in the rear, and then take them, who have never been to the shooting range and range, to the combat contact zones.
