Roscosmos showed a picture of a cyclone approaching Moscow
On January 7, the Roscosmos state Corporation showed a picture of a cyclone approaching Moscow.
"A cyclone is approaching the capital — a picture of the Roscosmos satellites. It will bring abnormal snowfalls: more than half of the monthly precipitation rate may fall in Moscow," the state corporation's Telegram channel says.
It is noted that the image was taken by the Electro-L and Arktika-M satellites.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Hydrometeorological Center issued an emergency warning about the worsening weather in Moscow and the Moscow region. Unfavorable conditions will begin to form on the evening of January 8th. According to the forecast, heavy snow is expected in Moscow from 18:00 on January 8 to 21:00 on January 9, with snowstorms in places, increased wind gusts up to 18 m/s, ice and snow drifts on the roads.
Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, said on January 6 that a "snow Armageddon" was expected in the Moscow region on January 9, with up to 30% of the monthly precipitation rate possible. After that, snowdrifts up to half a meter high may form in Moscow, which has never happened this season.
