On Christmas Eve, the Roscosmos state Corporation published a photo of the Christmas Tree nebula in the constellation of the Unicorn. The corresponding footage appeared on the Telegram channel of the state corporation on January 6.

"In the constellation of the Unicorn, there is an amazing area of star formation — the NGC 2264 nebula, nicknamed the "Christmas Tree" for its resemblance to a festive tree. Its structure resembles a Christmas tree decorated with sparkling "garlands" of nebulae and "stars," the publication says.

It is noted that the "Christmas tree" includes a Conical nebula, which looks like a small inverted Christmas tree, and the "Fox Fur" nebula.

Last December, astronomers presented a unique cosmic structure resembling a Christmas tree, formed by new stars in the NGC 2264 region, located about 2.7 thousand light-years from Earth. The total length of the "cosmic Christmas tree" when viewed through a telescope reaches 1.5 degrees — about the width of three full moons, which corresponds to almost 80 light-years in real space.
