In winter, the skin, even if it is initially in a normal state, becomes drier and more sensitive, as it lacks moisture. On January 5, Elena Ilchuk, cosmetologist, founder and chief physician of the ELEVANS clinic, spoke about how to improve her condition.

The cosmetologist clarified that cold outdoor air and dry indoor heating air create conditions for increased transepidermal moisture loss, which leads to dryness and irritation of the skin.

"In real life, it feels like tightness after the street, peeling, and a reaction to any unusual cream," she explained in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

Ilchuk recalled that temperature fluctuations also affect the vessels of the face, which narrow in the cold and expand in the heat. This process can cause redness and increased symptoms in people with rosacea, as well as cause inflammation on oily skin.

Central heating dries the indoor air, the cosmetologist noted, which accelerates the evaporation of moisture from the skin and disrupts its lipid barrier. This often leads to microcracks, itching, and peeling. A smartphone in winter also exacerbates the problem by affecting the skin condition due to exposure to the high-energy blue light of the phone screen. Scrolling also affects the quality of sleep, which can cause additional skin aging.

Ilchuk gave some tips for preventing winter skin aging. To begin with, according to her, it is necessary to abandon harsh foams and peels, use creamy and oily textures, and wash with cool or warm water. Then, according to the cosmetologist, intensive care is needed. Replace light creams with denser ones, add a moisturizing serum with hyaluronic acid. For very dry skin, use balms or ointment textures that retain moisture.

Protection from external factors also plays an important role, Ilchuk notes. Before going outside, apply a protective cream and use SPF, even in cloudy weather. Tinted mineral products with filters and antioxidants can be a good alternative.

Humidification of the air can also help in the fight against dry skin, said the cosmetologist. It is possible to maintain optimal humidity in the room with the help of humidifiers and regular wet cleaning.

For people with sensitive skin, rosacea, atopic dermatitis, or those who have recently undergone aggressive cosmetic procedures, Ilchuk recommends more personalized care, which may include medical therapy.

On January 2, Natalia Moiseenko, cosmetologist, founder and leading teacher of the Cosmetology training center, told Izvestia how to help the skin recover from holiday stress. According to her, delicate cleansing products with a neutral pH level that do not violate the lipid layer are considered the best option. Also, the second important step is hydration, Moiseenko added.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
