Russian Ambassador to Serbia says creeping purge against Serbs in Kosovo
Pristina conducts ethnic cleansing against Serbian citizens in order to consistently oust the Serbian population from Kosovo. This was announced on January 3 by Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botan-Kharchenko.
"In fact, we are talking about undeclared creeping ethnic cleansing. In other words, the expulsion of the Serbs from the territory of Kosovo, the creation of unbearable living conditions for them," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to Botan-Kharchenko, a pressure policy is being implemented against the Kosovo Serbs, which makes it more difficult for them to stay in the region due to deteriorating living conditions. The Russian Ambassador stressed that this practice is not a one-time occurrence, but has a steady trend and is likely to continue in the future.
In September 2025, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at a meeting with Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric, focused on the situation around Kosovo, stressing that Russia fully supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia. The parties discussed coordination of actions in international organizations and regional issues, including the situation in Metohija and Republika Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
