The countries of the European Union (EU) are still on the sidelines of the negotiation process on Ukraine. This was announced on December 29 by Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov.

"The EU is still on the sidelines of the negotiation process and, apparently, it will remain there. Nothing indicates a rapprochement between the positions of Trump and the Europeans," he wrote on the Telegram channel.

According to him, US President Donald Trump did not support the 20-point plan proposed by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, which, as noted, reflected the agreed position of Ukraine and the EU.

The senator noted that the European so-called "coalition of those who want to disrupt the peaceful settlement" continues to count on the head of the White House to take its side.

Trump and Zelensky held a meeting at the Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on December 28. The leaders discussed security guarantees for Kiev and US economic assistance for the reconstruction of Ukraine. The negotiations took place at the dinner table. After the meeting, the two presidents began a video conference with European leaders.

Later, Trump said that he had a wonderful meeting with the Ukrainian leader. In his opinion, the parties have come much closer to an agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
