Putin signed a law banning the sale of cigarettes and vapes at transport stops
On December 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning the retail sale of tobacco and nicotine-containing products at public transport stops. The document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
Amendments are being made to Article 19 of the Federal Law "On Protecting Citizens' Health from Exposure to Ambient Tobacco Smoke, the Effects of Tobacco Consumption or Consumption of Nicotine-containing Products."
However, the law provides for an exception: the ban will not apply if the outlet at the bus stop is the only place of sale of such products in the locality. It is noted that the decree will enter into force on September 1, 2026.
On December 19, the Federation Council approved a law banning the sale of tobacco products and vapes at public transport stops. According to the law, a ban is imposed on the sale of cigarettes, vapes, nicotine consumption devices, as well as hookahs at bus stops of all types of urban and suburban transport.
