The scale of Latvia's military preparations near the border with Russia is growing. This was announced on December 27 by Dmitry Kasatkin, Charge d'affaires of the Russian Federation in Riga.

"As you know, Latvia, together with its NATO partners, including Lithuania, Estonia, and Poland, is hatching plans to create a "single integrated system of fortifications" on the borders with Russia and Belarus — the so-called Baltic Defensive Line. All this is done ostensibly for defensive purposes, under the pretext of an imaginary "Russian threat," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

According to Kasatkin, Riga is actively building an "anti-mobile" infrastructure in the border area with Russia, installing anti-tank ditches and "dragon's teeth", as well as other technical structures. In addition, other large-scale militarization plans are being discussed, such as a "drone wall" or mining the eastern borders of the North Atlantic Alliance.

"We see that the scale of such preparations is increasing," Kasatkin stressed.

Earlier, on November 24, it was reported about the launch of the major international exercises Freezing Winds 25 in the Baltic Sea with the participation of 11 NATO countries. It was clarified that in addition to Finland, military contingents from Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, France, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland and the United States took part in the exercises. The total number of forces involved was about 5,000 troops.

On November 22, CBS News reported that NATO forces had begun training in the Mediterranean Sea to prepare for a possible conflict with Russia, and a warship was involved. It was clarified that the Neptune Strike training takes place off the coast of Italy.
