Russia has doubled its LNG exports to China
Russia has become the second largest supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to China after Qatar, overtaking Australia. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
It is noted that in November 2025, Beijing purchased 1.6 million tons of LNG from Russia, which is twice as much as in the same period in 2024, when the volume was 0.7 million tons. As a result, Russia's share in the Chinese LNG market has increased to 23.5%, compared with 11% a year ago.
"Lower prices helped offset the reduction in pipeline and LNG supplies to Europe, which was the largest buyer of gas until 2022," said Evgeny Sumarokov, associate professor at the Department of International Business at the Financial University under the Government of Russia.
Also this year, the number of LNG tankers was increased, including new Arc 7 class vessels, which allows for improved infrastructure and continued supply growth. At the same time, China intends to continue to cooperate with Russia in the energy sector and considers the Russian side to be a key trading partner.
On December 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia aims to bring cooperation with China to a qualitatively new level. According to him, many joint projects in the energy sector and other areas are focused on this. Putin noted that Russia has now established a "meaningful dialogue" with Chinese President Xi Jinping on economic issues.
On November 25, the Russian leader clarified that Russia and China are implementing large-scale joint projects in the field of fuel and energy complex (fuel and energy complex), which are of great importance for both countries.
