Zelensky held telephone talks with Witkoff and Kushner
On December 25, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held telephone talks with US President Donald Trump's special representative Steven Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner.
"Today we had a very good conversation with President Trump's special Representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Thank you for your constructive, intensive work, for kind words and congratulations to Ukrainians on Christmas," Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to him, the talks discussed "important details of the work" and "good ideas that can work for the sake of a common result and lasting peace." The Ukrainian leader expressed hope that the Christmas agreements and proposals would be useful for a settlement.
Zelensky added that Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Rustem Umerov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy Gnatov, and Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga also participated in the conversation. Zelensky said that Umerov would continue consultations with Witkoff and Kushner today in order "not to waste a single day."
In conclusion, the Ukrainian president asked to convey Christmas greetings to Trump and his family.
Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was analyzing the results of negotiations with the United States in Miami, which were reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin by Special Representative Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, and then there would be new contacts with the American side.
Peskov also drew attention to Zelensky's Christmas address, in which he made a strange and insulting statement. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation called the Ukrainian leader an embittered and inadequate person, and also questioned his ability to make decisions to resolve the conflict.
The day before, Zelensky revealed for the first time all 20 points of the peace plan to resolve the conflict. According to the document, the agreement should be based on recognition of Ukraine's sovereignty, a non-aggression pact with Russia, and international security guarantees modeled on Article 5 of the NATO Charter.
