On December 25, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, condemned the statements of some Western politicians about the blockade of the Kaliningrad region, noting in their statements "dementia and courage."

Zakharova called the statements about the transformation of the Baltic Sea into the "inner sea of the alliance" ridiculous, stressing that such ideas are "sick fantasies" and "nonsense." She also condemned discussions about a possible blockade of the Kaliningrad region and a possible military takeover.

"There is some kind of dementia and courage in these statements," Zakharova said, commenting on the words of "the most rabid Western politicians" about the future of the Baltic Sea region.

On December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the state will eliminate threats that may come from Europe. According to him, everyone should be aware and aware that such actions will lead to an escalation of the conflict "unprecedented up to this point" — they will take it to another level and expand it to a large-scale conflict.

At the same time, the Daily Express newspaper wrote on December 20 that Western states became wary after the Russian leader's statement about their attempts to blockade Kaliningrad. According to the publication, analysts consider this warning as a deterrent against the background of repeated statements by the Russian Federation about the possible encirclement of the city.
