- Microsoft will rewrite all the code for working with neural networks by 2030
Microsoft plans to translate the code of software products into the Rust language by 2030. The task will mainly be performed by artificial intelligence (AI) agents. This was announced on December 24 by Galen Hunt, the company's lead engineer.
"My goal is to eliminate all lines of C and C++ code at Microsoft by 2030. Our strategy is to combine AI and algorithms to rewrite Microsoft's largest codebases. Our goal is "one engineer, one month, 1 million lines of code," he wrote on the social network LinkedIn.
To accomplish this previously impossible task, the team has created a powerful code processing infrastructure. The algorithmic infrastructure, in turn, creates a scalable graph structure for the source code, and the AI infrastructure allows the use of artificial intelligence agents controlled by algorithms for massive code changes.
According to Hunt, this will help the company to develop and complement the infrastructure in order to further transfer the largest systems in C and C++ to Rust. The new language is distinguished by its level of security when working with memory. It also helps to avoid reading and writing operations outside the acceptable range.
On December 16, the American company OpenAI introduced the ChatGPT Images model, which uses AI to create images. The new model differs from the previous ones by more accurate query execution, improved editing function and saving details. In addition, this development creates images four times faster than ever before.
