The court arrested the former top manager of Rosatom on charges of bribery

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention in relation to the former director of the structural division of the state corporation Rosatom Gennady Sakharov. He is accused of taking a particularly large bribe. This was reported on the 23rd in the Telegram channel of the courts of general jurisdiction of the capital.

"By a resolution of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow dated December 23, 2025, a preventive measure was chosen in the form of detention in respect of Gennady Stanislavovich Sakharov, accused of taking a particularly large bribe (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)," the message says.

Earlier, in May 2025, Sakharov was found guilty of committing this crime by the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow. The court sentenced him to 12 years in prison to serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony, and also imposed a fine.

The investigation suspects Andrei Melnikov of involvement in corruption schemes.

TASS, citing law enforcement agencies, reported on November 18 that Sakharov, accused of taking bribes, had made a deal with the investigation and asked to be released to atone for his guilt in the area of a special military operation (SVO). It was clarified that Sakharov had told law enforcement agencies about a previously unknown corruption episode between him and the head of one of Rosatom's main contractors.

The former CEO of Rosatom was arrested in March 2024 on suspicion of corruption. According to investigators, as director of capital Investments, state Construction Supervision and state expertise, Sakharov was charged with accepting a particularly large bribe under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
