The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) recorded the lowest temperature on Earth. This was announced on December 20 at the Hydrometeorological Center of the Russian Federation.

"The world's top 3 was headed by Yakutsk Pokrovsk, where the weather station recorded a frost of -51.7 degrees," the organization's message quotes TASS.

It is noted that the Sukhana weather station, which is located in the Oleneksky district of the republic, took the second place, where the temperature was -49.4 degrees. In addition, a record low temperature was recorded in the Yakut village of Krest-Khaljai, where the temperature dropped to -48.7 degrees.

According to the Hydrometeorological Center of the Russian Federation, record high temperatures were recorded in Australia and the Republic of South Africa (South Africa). It is specified that in the city of Telfer, which is located in western Australia, the air temperature was +44.1 degrees, and in Upington, South Africa, the weather station recorded readings of + 39.2 degrees.

Experts also drew attention to the weather conditions in the Moscow region — the warmest day was December 19 in the village of Cherusti near Moscow, where the air temperature was +1.6 degrees. In the city of Kashira, last night was the coldest in the entire region, with thermometers dropping to -3.2 degrees.

Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency, told Izvestia on December 19 that cloudy weather would remain in Moscow over the weekend, with no significant precipitation and a temperature background that would significantly exceed the climatic norm. According to her, the temperature in the capital at night will be -1... + 1 degrees, and in the afternoon — 0 ... +2 degrees.
