- Trump's ex-consultant called the idea of a tunnel between Russia and Alaska interesting.
The initiative for the possible creation of a tunnel between Alaska and Russia is interesting, as well as technically feasible. This was announced on December 20 by George Papadopoulos, a former consultant to US President Donald Trump.
He noted that the project will require relatively small investments, and if implemented, it will open up new opportunities for uniting the world's largest economies — the United States and Russia.
"I think this is a very interesting proposal, and in my opinion, both Russia and the United States would benefit from its implementation," RIA Novosti quoted Papadopoulos as saying.
According to Papadopoulos, this project can be an important step in improving relations between the two countries, contributing to the development of trade, investment and energy cooperation. He also expressed hope that the tunnel would help strengthen security cooperation, which, in his opinion, has long needed improvement.
Scientist Viktor Razbegin said on November 4 that the cost of the tunnel project, which could connect Chukotka with Alaska, is estimated in the range of $ 12-15 billion. According to the concept, the tunnel will consist of two transport and one service passage connected by breakdowns for maintenance and safety.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova recalled on October 23 that the idea of building a tunnel between Russia and the United States had its development even at the end of the 19th century. According to her, this idea was later recalled as a possible symbol that could make it possible to establish relations between the USSR and the United States. The American leader also noted that the idea of creating a tunnel between Russia and Alaska is interesting.
