Despite the rapid increase in the incidence of Hong Kong flu, the virus is not able to repeat the fate of COVID-19, at the moment there is no reason to repeat the pandemic scenario. This was announced on December 20 by Svetlana Vakhrusheva, Director of the Department of Clinical Medicine at the FEFU School of Medicine and Life Sciences, Candidate of Medical Sciences.

"Of course, the rapid increase in the incidence of Hong Kong flu is causing concern among both the population and medical professionals. However, from the point of view of epidemiology and the history of medicine, there is currently no reason for us to fear a repeat of the covid scenario," she said.

According to the candidate of medical Sciences, the greatest danger to human health is posed by viruses that humanity is encountering for the first time, as was the case with coronavirus infection.

Dmitry Edelev, MD, said on December 18 that the incubation period of the Hong Kong flu does not exceed two days. He noted that for others, the sick person is contagious the day before the first signs of the disease appear and about 5-7 days after the onset of the disease. At the same time, if the disease proceeds without complications, the acute phase lasts about 4-5 days.

The press service of Rospotrebnadzor reported on December 16 that the incidence of influenza in Russia is estimated to be moderate.
