Macron wants Europe to resume dialogue with Putin
It will be useful for the leaders of European countries to resume dialogue with the Russian side. On December 19, French President Emmanuel Macron told reporters after the European Union (EU) summit in Brussels.
"I think that a conversation with [Russian President] Vladimir Putin will be useful again," Le Figaro newspaper quoted him as saying.
He noted that some leaders, in particular, US President Donald Trump, are already negotiating with Vladimir Putin. Macron also stressed that the Europeans and Ukrainians are interested in finding conditions for resuming constructive discussions with Russia.
On November 12, Finnish President Alexander Stubb announced that the dialogue between Russia and Europe would be resumed, but not all contacts and channels of interaction should be advertised. According to him, any contacts with Russia should be carefully coordinated between the EU countries, and their goals and format should be discussed jointly.
In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the dialogue between Russia and Europe would have to be resumed sooner or later.
