Russia has increased fish exports to Europe and Japan
In 2025, Russia increased the supply of fish and seafood to Europe and Japan. This was announced on December 19 by the president of the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Exporters (VARPE), German Zverev.
"This year, shipments to Europe have increased by 15% in money. Demand there has grown significantly after a severe failure in 2024. <...> Supplies to Japan continue, with a 5% increase this year," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti, noting that European countries mainly buy pollock and cod products from Russia, while Japan He buys surimi and crabs.
Zverev also added that despite the sanctions, which have led to a 10% reduction in European fish processing, Russian supplies continue. Shipments to the segment of the global market with unfriendly regimes amounted to $2.8 billion, which is about 40% of the total volume of Russian exports.
In addition, the expert said that Russian fishermen continue to expand exports to countries with friendly regimes, including Latin America, India and Southeast Asian countries, which previously had little purchase of Russian fish products.
The head of Rosrybolovstvo, Ilya Shestakov, announced on December 18 that Russia and Norway had agreed to restore cooperation in fishing, giving Russian fishermen access to Norway's economic zone for catching cod and haddock, despite the opposition of the European Union (EU). It was clarified that the negotiations began after the introduction of sanctions from Norway, which deprived Russian vessels of access to the fishing territory.
