Over 70% of Russians expressed confidence in the need for a direct line with Putin.
Three quarters of Russians consider the annual direct line with Russian President Vladimir Putin to be necessary, and more than half plan to watch or listen to it. Such data follows from a survey by the Public Opinion Foundation, published on the eve of the event, on December 18.
The survey was conducted on December 5-7, 2025 among 1.5 thousand Russians from 97 settlements of 51 subjects of the Russian Federation as part of the weekly All-Russian study "FOMnibus".
"54% of Russians are going to watch or listen to a direct line with Putin this year, 34% are not going to. 75% believe that an annual direct line with the president is necessary, 19% believe that it could be conducted less frequently or completely abandoned," the publication on the FOM website says.
It is noted that 19% would ask the head of state about a special military operation, 7% would touch upon the problems of pensioners, 5% each would talk with the president about prices, salaries, health and education issues.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted earlier in the day that social security issues were leading the way in the number of citizen requests in preparation for the annual direct line with the president. Peskov noted that the set of topics remains predictable, but their relevance is changing. According to him, if last year health issues were in the first place, this year this topic is not even among the top five most frequent.
It was reported that the number of calls to the direct line with Putin exceeded 1.2 million. Most of the questions are about social policy, infrastructure, and housing. In addition, people are also often asked about neural networks this year.
The Kremlin's press service announced on December 4 that a combined direct line and a press conference by the President of Russia would be held on December 19 at 12:00 Moscow time.
