A 12-year-old boy was detained in Sweden after, according to police, he committed a contract killing for 250,000 Swedish kronor (€23,000), killing the wrong person. This was reported on December 18 by the Aftonbladet newspaper.
Swedish police have detained a boy suspected of murdering a 21-year-old man while shooting at a car in Malmo. As specified, the victim was in the car with friends. The victim was found in the back seat of the car and taken to the hospital, where he died.
According to the investigation, the boy, who is not a resident of Malmo, arrived in the city with the aim of committing a contract killing. He was promised 250,000 Swedish kronor (£20,000) for carrying out the crime. The police noted that the main target was another person in the car.
Since the suspect is under the age of 15, he cannot be detained, he was transferred to custody with the appointment of a legal representative, according to court documents.
Sweden has one of the highest levels of youth involvement in street gangs in the European Union (EU). In 2023, there were 363 shootings in the country, in which 55 people were killed, despite a population of about 10.5 million people. For comparison, in Finland, Denmark and Iceland, together, only six people died during the same period.
