In Nizhny Novgorod, a 92-year-old pensioner who became a victim of telephone fraud sent all her savings to the attackers, leaving only 100 rubles for herself. Taxi driver Malik Khalilov, who prevented the scam, told Izvestia about this on December 17.

The order to send a parcel from Nizhny Novgorod to Kazan alerted the man from the very beginning: the trip cost 15,000 rubles, and the client who contacted him claimed that he wanted to transport the keys he had forgotten from his grandmother. A pensioner met the taxi driver at the departure point. She gave Khalilov the keys and a package, explaining that it was a package for her grandson. Having heard about the frequent cases of fraud, the man decided to check things out.

"There was a woman's jacket, and there was a wad of money in the pocket. I immediately went to the police station, handed over the package and told them how everything happened," the taxi driver explained.

Khalilov returned to the pensioner together with law enforcement officers. It turned out that the scammers convinced her to give money and warm clothes to a relative who was allegedly in an accident.

"She said she gave away all the money, kept only 100 rubles for herself. Interestingly, the woman does not have any close relatives, only a niece, with whom she has not communicated for a long time," the taxi driver said, stressing that this did not prevent the pensioner from sending savings to fraudsters.

The Interior Ministry clarified that a criminal case had been opened into the incident. The identity of the attackers is being established.

Earlier in the day, Honored Lawyer of Russia Ivan Solovyov said that in the coming year, the fraudulent impact on Russians will only increase: new schemes of deception and recruitment will be developed. The main targets for intruders are teenagers and pensioners. According to the expert's forecasts, scammers will begin to actively use artificial intelligence to identify special personality traits, family ties and other information that will help in further deception.
