The US administration is ready to impose new sanctions against the Russian energy sector in order to increase pressure on Moscow in the event of a failure of peace talks on Ukraine. This was reported on December 17 by Bloomberg, citing sources.

It is claimed that the restrictions may affect ships that allegedly transport Russian oil, as well as traders who participate in trade transactions. According to the agency's interlocutors, new restrictive measures may be announced as early as this week.

In addition, Bloomberg writes that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant discussed these plans during a meeting with a group of European ambassadors this week.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia had not received official reports of new anti-Russian sanctions from the United States. According to him, any restrictions negatively affect the establishment of relations between states.

On December 15, Robert Agee, head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham), said that the direct damage to American business from the sanctions policy amounted to about $100 billion. According to him, a survey of American companies showed that the United States' own sanctions have caused them more damage (eight out of 10 points) than Russian countermeasures (five out of 10).
