The world's diamond reserves of 1.8 billion carats, which can be considered economically viable for mining, will last for 20 years with an annual production of 90 million carats, and if these figures are reduced, these reserves will be sufficient for 50-60 years. This was announced on Wednesday, December 17, by Sergey Takhiev, Head of the Corporate Finance and Investor Relations Department at Alrosa.

"The current estimate of economically viable diamond reserves at current prices is 1.8 billion carats. This will be enough for about 20 years with production of 90 million carats per year. <...> We are unlikely to see an acute shortage of diamonds, but we hope to see a gradual recovery in prices in the near future," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
