- Former CSKA and Russian national football team player Schennikov announced his retirement
On December 16, former football player of the Moscow football club (FC) CSKA and the Russian national team Georgy Schennikov announced his retirement from sports.
"Now we can say for sure: I have completed my professional career. Let's be honest, it's impossible to return to big—time football after such a long break," he told the Sport24 portal.
Schennikov left CSKA at the end of the 2022/23 season, when his contract expired. He played for the Army throughout his career, starting in 2008. In total, the 34-year-old defender played 367 matches for the Moscow team, scored 10 goals and provided 15 assists, Sport-Express adds.
Also, as a member of CSKA, the football player became a three-time champion of Russia, a four-time winner of the Cup and the Super Cup of the country. The defender has also played 10 matches for the Russian national team.
Former goalkeeper of Krasnodar, Zenit, Braga and the Russian national team Stanislav Kritsyuk has finished his sports career. In an interview with reporters on November 28, the goalkeeper admitted that he had made this decision back in January. For most of his career, the goalkeeper played in Portugal, defending the gates of Braga, Belenenses, Gil Vicente and Rio Ave.
