Dodik called Putin's Munich speech in 2007 prophetic
Former leader of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik called the speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Munich Security Conference in 2007 prophetic. He stated this in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV channel on December 16.
According to the politician, Moscow's calls for dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation at that time were perceived in the West as a sign of weakness. Dodik noted that Russia's position was not taken seriously, as Western elites considered themselves the only force determining the rules of world politics.
"Putin was extremely precise and understandable, but the West was blinded by his might. They thought it was funny. They believed that Russia was no longer the same and would not be able to do anything," Dodik said.
He also stressed that, in his opinion, Western countries viewed Russia solely as an object of geopolitical pressure and a source of resources, preventing the possibility of an equal partnership. The politician added that at that time, any proposals from Moscow on negotiations and the search for compromises were rejected.
In addition, Dodik said that Western states had a plan that provided for the use of the Minsk agreements as a tool to delay time. According to him, it was about simultaneously building up Ukraine's military potential and preparing for further escalation.
On December 11, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on Europe to increase military spending to "fight Russia." He noted that many countries remain complacent and do not realize the urgency of what is happening. Rutte also stressed that states should continue to "exert pressure on Russia and support efforts aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine."
On December 13, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova drew attention to the fact that the European Union's policy towards Russia has long been devoid of any sound logic and resembles a theater of the absurd. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on December 15 that the actions of the EU countries are the main threat in the world at the moment. He stressed that the EU uses the situation around Ukraine for self-affirmation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 2 that Russia was not going to go to war with Europe. According to him, the Russian Federation is currently operating in Ukraine "surgically," but in the event of an attack by European countries on Russia, everything will be different.
