St. Andrew's flag was hoisted on the Velikiye Luki diesel-electric submarine
A solemn ceremony of raising the St. Andrew's flag took place on the Velikiye Luki non-nuclear submarine, which marked the ship's entry into the Russian Navy. This was announced on December 16 by Kirill Polyakov, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg.
"St. Petersburg, fulfilling the instructions of the President [of Russia Vladimir Putin], continues to replenish the Russian Navy with modern warships. Despite the sanctions pressure and the difficult geopolitical situation, St. Petersburg shipbuilders are confidently implementing the most complex projects," he noted in his Telegram channel.
Polyakov noted that the submarine was built at the Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg, which retains the status of a center for non-nuclear submarine shipbuilding. Velikiye Luki is a representative of the latest 677 series, designed to perform various tasks in coastal waters. The crew of the submarine was wished a successful service and "seven feet under the keel."
On November 1, a new Russian nuclear submarine Khabarovsk was launched at the Sevmash Production Association in Severodvinsk. The submarine is designed to protect Russia's maritime borders and protect the country's national interests in various areas of the world Ocean.
The Financial Times (FT) newspaper said on November 9 that the Khabarovsk submarine would become a key problem for the British Navy in the coming years. It is noted that the launch of the Russian nuclear submarine in November provoked a resonance in defense circles.
