The UK is calling on the European Commission (EC) to justify the confiscation of Russian assets using "loopholes" in the Treaty on the European Union (EU). This was announced on December 16 by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).

"London calls on the European Commission to justify the theft of Russian money by using loopholes in the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU, as well as references to the occurrence of extraordinary circumstances. The opinion of the EU countries that disagree with this is proposed to be ignored," the message on the agency's website says.
