- The US Chamber of Commerce estimated the amount of damage to business due to the sanctions wars
The direct damage to American business from the sanctions policy amounted to about $100 billion. This was announced on December 15 by Robert Agee, head of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham).
"We estimated that the direct impact amounted to about $100 billion, and the total damage amounted to almost $300 billion, including potential losses of a specific business," he said in a conversation with RTVI TV channel.
According to Agee, a survey of American companies showed that the United States' own sanctions caused them more damage (8 out of 10 points) than Russian countermeasures (5 out of 10). AmCham also noted that the Russian economy has adapted to the restrictions, and China has become the main beneficiary.
In addition, the American official said that the organization has prepared an analytical document White Paper ("White Paper"), which describes in detail the effects of sanctions on various sectors of American business. The document has been sent to the US Treasury and the US Presidential Administration. It calls for a review of the sanctions policy, as it has hit the interests of American companies themselves harder.
In September, Agee had already stated that American business had begun discussions with the administration of US President Donald Trump about lifting some of the anti-Russian sanctions. According to the head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, businesses are now ready to continue appealing to representatives of the US administration to ease or completely lift sanctions, which have the most devastating effect on American companies.
