- A prisoner of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told about the lack of supplies for the Ukrainian army in Dimitrov
Sergei Ionov, a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), who was captured by soldiers of the 5th separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 51st Combined Arms Army and performs tasks as part of the Center group of forces, spoke about the lack of supplies in the village of Dimitrov in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). The December 15 footage is published by Izvestia.
"Provisions are not being delivered. They don't change people from there," he said.
The prisoner noted that the decision to surrender was conscious. The Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers spent four days on duty, and on the fifth day they were discovered by Russian servicemen.
"The weapons were all in the field. We went out without anything, and then they took it themselves. They gave me something to eat and drink," Ionov shared.
The prisoner also spoke about how the exercises of the Armed Forces of Ukraine took place.
"We rested there for three days, and then the instructors arrived. <...> When the weather was bad, we had cabins there, we went into the cabins, just wrote there, wrote everything down in the log. The exercise went on and on, and then they said the exercises were over, and you would be picked up by teams," he said.
After the exercises, the Ukrainian servicemen went to Bolgrad, Odessa region, where they stayed for five days, and then they were sent to the DPR. Ionov also claims that, together with other servicemen, he tried to refuse to participate in hostilities for health reasons, but they were sent to their positions.
"I can't for health reasons. I have a problem with my back, I say. I can't wear an armor. I go to hospitals all the time anyway, either IVs or injections," said Ionov.
He also said that he was mobilized after re-passing the medical examination. According to him, the summons was handed to him on the street on his way home from work.
On December 12, the Russian Ministry of Defense published footage of the surrender of Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters in Dimitrov. According to the Ministry of Defense, the surrendered militants stated that the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had left them on the line of contact without communication, support and clear instructions. Finding themselves in a desperate situation, the military decided to stop resisting and voluntarily surrender.
