The State Commission on the results of the flight of the Bion‑M spacecraft No. 2 recognized the experiment as successful. This was announced on December 14 by the Roscosmos State Corporation.

"The State Commission has confirmed that the flight of the Bion‑M spacecraft No. 2 has been recognized as successful. All onboard systems have worked normally, and the scientific orbital program has been completed in full," the state corporation's Telegram channel says.

The mission took place in August-September 2025. The lander landed in the Orenburg region. The main purpose of the flight was to study the combined effects of weightlessness and increased levels of cosmic radiation on living organisms at various levels, from systemic to molecular. The satellite was launched into a high-inclination orbit, where radiation exposure approaches the conditions of interplanetary flight.

It is noted that the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences is conducting a detailed analysis of the data obtained. The state corporation also reported that from 2026 preparations will begin for the launch of the Bion‑M spacecraft No. 3, which will operate in an even higher orbit — about 800 km — to study the factors of space flight in conditions of increased radiation background.

Earlier, on August 20, a Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with the Bion-M biological satellite No. 2 launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome, which delivered plants and microorganisms into orbit. A few days later, on August 22, the Roscosmos state corporation shared footage from the boxes with 75 mice and 1.5 thousand fruit flies. It was clarified that the scientists were going to investigate the effect of a weakened magnetic field over the poles of the Earth.

A month later, on September 19, Bion-M No. 2 landed with mice and flies in the steppes of the Orenburg region. Later it became known that out of 75 mice, 10 died.
